Hair Q&A

Q: How do I protect my hair color from fading? A: There are a few things you can do: - Use a color safe shampoo and conditioner - Cover your hair with a hat when outside for long periods of time. - Use a heat protectant when styling. - Wash your hair 2-3 times per week or less.

Q: How often do I need color? My roots show after a few weeks. A: Our hair grows from our scalp. On average, your base color will need to be redone every 4-6 weeks. Depending on how light/dark your natural is compared to the color you choose, can really impact how soon you will see your regrowth. For low maintanence, choose a color that is close to your natural color. The bigger then difference, the sooner you will notice your roots growing in. This could help you determine how light/dark you will want your color as it can tell you how often you will want to maintain your color. Consult with your stylist for a color that works for you.

Q: How often should I get my hair cut? A: This depends on the length of your hair and how fast your hair grows. The average amount your hair grows is 1/2 inch per month. To maintain your haircut, consider trimming every 4-6 weeks.

Q: If I am growing out my hair, do I still need to get haircuts? A: Yes! Trimming the tips of your hair, along with shaping as you go, truly helps your hair grow in better. You can stretch the timing of trims if your hair feels manageable. Try not to wait too long, you want to prevent split ends.

Q: What size round brush should I use when styling my hair? A: Depends on what you are wanting you round brush to do for you. The bigger the brush, the straighter the outcome. The smaller the brush, the more it will bend the hair (think flip and roundness).

Q: How long will it take to have blonde hair if I have darker color hair currently? A: This is a complicated question. You have to lift previous color and go through all the stages of reds, oranges, and yellows. Being clear with your stylist on your hair's history is key. This takes a toll on your hair. It's best to take it slow, so the integrity of your hair stays intact. This can take multiple sessions and you using the right hair care products at home in between sessions. This can be considered a color correction depending on the degree of difference in lighting. Ask your stylist for a consultation for a personalized answer.

Q: What does a toner do? A: Toner is an added color service that is sometimes needed when you want a specific color tone in your hair. Example: You like cool toned blondes. Our hair lifts warm tones, we can apply a toner to the highlighted hair to help acheive that look. Toners do fade over time, so this will need to be refreshed when desired. Ask your stylist if a toner would be right for your hair.

Q: Beards, how can you control the little hairs and keep them neat? A: Use beard products, such as beard oil, conditioner, and a beard brush, all help to taim your beard. You could also try drying your beard with a blowdryer and small round brush. This truly helps.

Q: How do I know if layers are right for my hair? A: Layers add movement, texture, volume to your style. If you want those things, then consider layers. Layers can be short, long, textured, and everything in between. A good consultation with your stylist, can help determine what's right for your style.

Q: What is the difference between hilights and lowlights? A: Hilights are lighter. Lowlights are darker. Hilights add lighter than your base color. they can add a "pop" to your color. They also help with volume. Lowlights add depth (darkness) to your color. Using your base color to add some lowlights, can help your hair from getting too light or looking too washed out. Remember color fades over time, so this can be a great option to add to your color service. Consult with your stylist on what is best for your hair.
